"It is not so much that the boat passedand you failed to notice it.
It is more like the boat stopping directly outside your bedroom window,
the captain blowing the signal-horn, the band playing a rousing march.

The boat shouted, waving bright flags,its silver hull blinding in the sunlight.

But you had this idea you were going by train.
You kept checking the time-table, digging for tracks.

And the boat got tired of you, so tired it pulled up the anchorand raised the ramp.
The boat bobbed into the distance, shrinking like a toy—at which point you probably realized.

you had always loved the sea.

"시에 나오는 당신은 십중팔구 배를 놓쳤을 겁니다. 
아니 배가 당신을 기다리다가 지쳐서 닻을 끌어올리고 떠났겠죠.

그리고 기차를 탈 생각에 갇혀있던 당신은 방금 어떤 기회가 자기 곁을 떠났는지 조차 모를 겁니다.
계속 모른다면 아쉬움이 없겠지만, 중간에 알게 된다면 안타까움이 크지 않을까. 

또 알고 보니 내가 기다리는 것은 기차가 아니라 배일 지도 모릅니다.
